Transportation consultant Fehr & Peers, studying the commuting habits of California residents last year, got 300 responses from 5,300 postcard surveys sent by mail. Using cellular signals over the same period, Fehr was able to track travel patterns for 76,500 handset users. Fehr has expanded use of AirSage data to five projects in the first half of 2013 from just one in 2012.
For another client, AirSage Trip Matrix analytics documented travel patterns captured from nearly 11.6 million trips and more than 3 million unique mobile devices in Moore County, NC from September 20 through October 18, 2012. This represented approximately one in six Moore County residents. Traditional Household Transportation Surveys (HHTS) have resulted in small sample sizes often representing as few as one out of every 100 households.
